KangDe Blind Massage Center

Tsering Thondup was born in a village in Tingri County, Xigaze, Tibet. He lost his sight at the age of 7 due to a high fever and poor medical care. After years of groping in the dark, the 38-year-old finally opened his own massage shop, where he is one of seven blind masseurs. They come from different parts of Tibet to this small massage shop in Lhasa. For them, massages may be just to stay alive, but music is the true dream of the seven blind people-they planned to spend a year forming a band.

“We are all dreamers and equally positive. Now that business is getting better and better, we want to improve our massage skills and at the same time, get the band up and play teahouse regularly, which is our ideal.”
